Tendulkar turns ‘20’ : Tributes roll in
“I think apart from Sir Garfield Sobers, nobody has played 20 years of international cricket,” Sunil Gavaskar said. “And 20 years of playing at the highest level and playing at the highest standards – that is an achievement beyond compare.”
“No praise can be too high for this young man,” he said. “He is young, because as far as his enthusiasm for the game is concerned, I think he’s almost child-like. That’s what keeps him going on and on. I hope he keeps going for a few more years.”
“Lara and Ponting are fantastic batsmen. But I think Tendulkar is just a bit ahead of them,” Gavaskar said in a tribute to Tendulkar, who completes 20 years in international cricket on November 15.
“It’s very difficult for someone to take his eyes off Sachin Tendulkar,” says Gautam Gambhir. “The way he makes you feel comfortable, makes you feel a part of the dressing room, the way he gives you the confidence that you belong to this place shows the amount of modesty he has.”
It was only recently that Tendulkar himself compared his batting style to Virender Sehwag, who by his own acknowledgement only started playing the game after watching Tendulkar on TV. Sehwag was simply bowled over by the compliment
